About

About me

I am currently pursuing a PhD in Computer Science at Rice University, under the supervision of Prof. Luay Nakhleh. Previously, I graduated with a Masters of Science (By Research) in Computer Science under the supervision of Prof. Hamim Zafar from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and with a Bachelors of Engineering in Computer Science from MVJ College of Engineering, Bangalore.

My research interest currently lie in the domain of computational genomics, specifically Cancer genomics and revolve around creating efficient computational techniques involving aspects of probabilistic machine learning, statistics, and algorithms for analyzing genomic data. Coupled with my background in computer science, I aim to provide a novel computational perspective to cellular and gene-specific interactions that drive biological processes.

Personal

My name is Narein Rao (pronounced na-rain). I was born in Muscat, Oman and am Indian by descent. I completed primary school at Indian School Muscat, Muscat, Oman and completed middle and high school at The Oxford Senior Secondary School, Bangalore, Karnataka, India. I love to dance and have discussions over subjects pertaining to religion, philosophy, ethics and morality.

I have been in touch with religious studies to an extent as far as I can remember. With the grace of my parents and god I was fortunate enough to initially be associated with Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organization, Muscat, Oman and now (to an extent) with ISKCON. Some of my current hobbies and associations have been listed below. Feel free to check them,

Abandon all varieties of religion and just surrender unto Me. I shall deliver you from all sinful reaction. Do not fear.

Now, in summarizing Bhagavad-gita, the Lord says that Arjuna should give up all the processes that have been explained to him; he should simply surrender to Krsna. That surrender will save him from all kinds of sinful reactions, for the Lord personally promises to protect him.

I strongly believe that the human life is a golden opportunity to question and understand the "big" questions in the universe. For instance, "Who am I ?". In my experiences so far, under Swamis fold and with the truly unconditional love and guidance of Bhaktivedanta club, IIT Kanpur, I understood that we are provided the opportunity to contemplate over such questions. On doing so, we realize the existence of god and how the ONLY way to end suffering is to surrender unto Krsna. Although I am but a fledgling in understanding Krsna consciousness, I have faith that one day I would be able to understand. Govinda Iccha.

Dance

info

I love to dance and have been dancing on and off from high school. My style is a combination of tutting, waving and popping. I also like to incorporate elements of other styles such as locking, house and afro. I had been the president of the college dance club during my undergrad days and had the incredible opportunity to dance with talented people from crews in bangalore, such as MadMonks crew, Invaderz crew and SoulFlyerz crew. I find street dance in Bangalore (Karnataka, India) which combines elements of hip-hop, house and afro with more southern folk forms like kuthu and yakshagana to be really exciting and uplifting.
